What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a focused state of concentration. It uses the power of Imagination to make desired changes. To change you must see the possibilities.
Everyone experiences hypnosis. You’re driving on a long stretch of highway and your mind is wondering and all of a sudden you realize you’re at your exit. Or you’re lying on the beach and you drift off, knowing all the people are still on the beach but not really being aware of them. You are experiencing being in the “zone”; the alpha brain wave state.
It is said that the mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. Many professional basketball players use Hypnosis to increase their scores at the game. Michael Jordon used hypnotherapy to improve his mental stamina. The whole Chicago Bulls team used hypnotherapy to gain an edge over their opponents.
Shoot the Hoop – A Research Study
A research study was conducted to verify that visualization could actually help a person reach optimal performance. The study centered on a group of basketball players who wanted to shoot the basketball more accurately so that they would increase the number of baskets they made. The players participated in the study were divided into two groups. They were all given a pretest to see how many baskets they could make out of a certain number of shots. Then half of the group practiced improving their ability to make a basket in the gym. The other group practiced half of the time in the gum and the other half of the time using visualization techniques to practice making baskets. In their minds they executed each shot perfectly. They pictured themselves releasing the ball correctly at just the right angle. At the end of the study, a post test was given. The players who had used visualization to help them improve were scoring significantly higher than the group who practiced only in the gym. (Williams, Linda Verlee, Teaching the Two-Sided Mind.
